IIRC it is because the gear is made of different metal-Otherwise I see no issue with using one....I know most chevy guys use the bronze 302 dizzy gear so it doesn't eat the cam up, as the cast ones do....
The 302 dist has a different shaft , so no it won't , as far as gears go , if its got a steel roller cam , then you need a steel gear , cast cam , cast gear , i belive you can use a bronze gearwith both.....Lew
Thanks Lew, I knew the gear had a hand in it not being interchangeable, wasn't for sure on the shaft though....I learned something useful today at least...
Wow, thanks guys for your fast and extremely helpful reply! My plow truck runs horribly and I was hoping to try the distributor from a 302 that I have kicking around to see if that's the problem. At least now I won't waste time messing with the wrong distributor. Really appreciate it! Michael.
