Depends on what application it came out of.
'05 F250/F350's used the 3V cylinder heads, and the '05 Excursions and E-Series used the 2V heads.

In your original post-you say the engine is from an '05.
What did the engine come out of, and what is it going in?

Is the engine from an Excursion or Econoline? If so, then it's a 2V and will work.
If it's from an F250/F350/F450, then it's a 3V and will not directly swap in.

As far as physically bolting in, yes-the 2V 6.8L's are all the same externally as far as mounts, etc go. You will have to mix and match the accessory drive, intake manifold and oil pan to match your vehicle, and you'll need to be cautious of the CNG versions of the engines-they have oddball compression and weird camshaft specs.

Only major difference is the 1999 is NONE PI heads, less HP then the 00-04 2V-V10. I believe most everything will bolt up.
