Any Ideas on what could cause a vibration on my 2002 Ex 7.3 Diesel. So below 69 mph all feels good at approx 70 mph start to feel vibration and goes away at around 80 mph. Vehicle is new to me and has new tires. I do not really feel vibration in steering wheel and do not get a shake in wheel like an un-balanced tire. You seem to hear it and can feel it in the seat. Its not terible but it is noticable. Tires on vehicle are Nitto Dura Grapplers Highway terrain LT 265/75/16. Any thoughts would be great.
Mine did the same thing. It started at 62MPH. It was the driveshaft out of balance. It took two different shops testing the driveshaft and the second one testing it twice before mine was cured. I went through the tire balancing and ended up at the dealer. They used a several sensors connected to a laptop to pinpoint where the vibration was coming from.
They tried to order a new driveshaft from Ford but there're no longer available(lucky for me, as that would have fixed the problem, but would have been expensive.
They're the ones that sent the driveshaft out for balance. All in all it cost me $113.00.
So... if you don't get rid of the vibration from balancing your tires, this may be a plan B for you.
i have the same thing feels like my back rims unbalanced or a bent rim but im going to do 1 more balancing on all 4 tires and another allignment if it doesnt solve it then i will get the driveshaft checked out
I fought driveline balance issues in my previous 03 V10 X. Never solved it after two driveline built shafts (one with a CV joint), rear tc output bushing, rearend rebuild, etc. It started around 62 mph and had varying degrees of annoyance depending on which driveshaft was in it. I still believe it was a driveshaft issue as I could drop the rear shaft and drive around on the front one and it was fine. My 01 7.3 is smooth as glass, but it has the rubber dampener on the shaft and my V10 did not. These things are uber sensitive to driveshafts. I had the local dealer change the rear pinion seal and rear ujoint. I got it back and it vibrated. Luckily I made reference marks from the tc to the rear pinion and all points on the driveshaft. They had rotated the rear yoke on the driveshaft 180 degrees out. So, I pulled it and rotated it back inline and it is back to being smooth. It shouldnt have mattered but it fixed it.
Thanks for thr feedback. I think I will start with the tire Re-Balance and go from there. What type of shop does a re-balance of driveshafts if it comes down to plan B ?
