Wiring Issues
I have a 1975 F150 well the title says F150 Ranger but it has Ranger and Explorer badges on it. Not sure if its one in the same or not.
Like I said I have some wiring issues, the fella that had the truck before me had a shop put in a universal Painless Wiring Harness in the truck. He either had or wired the Auto Meter Sport Comp gauges in him self and half the gauges dont work "oil, air/fuel ratio". I believe the speedo is correct up to 20 mph and then its 10 mph under after that. Im unsure if the tach or the temp gauges are correct put they do move. It has no fuel gauge.
So my main concerns; my brake lights, I was reading some of the other posts about there brake lights and there turn signal cam that one would work and one wouldnt. My question is are they intergrated together. I ask because about 2 days after I got the truck the steering shaft rubber boot dooma flop thing broke and when I was tryin to push my steering wheel back down to install a new one I broke the cam and the signals dont work anymore. Now Im not sure if the brake lights worked before that point or not. And yes I checked the bulbs and most of the wiring I could find. Could I hard wire a leed from the battery to a fuse and then to the brake light switch straight to the brake lights?
The other concern the fella that had the truck before me took the first gas tank out and left the rear one in. I cant find any wires from the rear gas tank for a fuel gauge. Now I was looking at some Auto Meter fuel gauges that requires a universal sending unit. Im not sure of the sending unit in the truck now. But will these work or what do yall think. The required sending unit is at the bottom of that web page.
Auto Meter
On the fuel tank, the sending unit is in the top of the tank, and they have a teardrop shaped rubber boot that connects to the unit. It should be just one wire.
Hope this helps.
