There was an AOD, but never behind the oil burner.
Now for the bad news: Nothing bolts to that trans except the oil burner.
Ford has many different bell patterns, and the 302 uses the "small block Ford" pattern, along with '65 1/2 289s, 351Ws and the 240/300 six and late 250 sixes. The 460 shares it's pattern with the 370/429 truck engines, the 429 car engine and the 351M/400 engines.
You will never enjoy fuel economy on a scale great enough to pay for any engine swap, especially one that requires a new trans, & fuel, exhaust, and accessory systems.
And and F350 with a 302 would be a pretty weak rig, and maybe weaker still depending on overall gearing and tire size.
I don't know what to suggest here other than to find another 7.3.
