ok i go offroading like once a month and hte last 3 times i've gone this has happened to me. I'll be going along through holes fine ll day long and then i'll hit one hole and all the sudden the truck will either stall or miss really bad when i try to rev it up quickly. Like when i punch it it will miss and make the noise of a rattling can within the engine. but if i just slowly rev it up it will accelerate. It really loses alot of power. Like its so bad if i get it started it won't even climb up slight inclines in 2 wheel drive. In 4 wheel drive forget about it it won't even start moving before it stalls. But heres the strange thing when i take it out onto a main road and slowly ease it up to around 45-55 and run it like that for 3-5 minutes it becomes perfectly fine again! I'm thinking i'm splashing over the EFI computer and its just drying off as i ease it up in power. What can i do to stop this! ITs reall hard when your at the bottom of a hill in a mudpit.
Second that, You are probably gettin water and/or muck in your distributor. You should stop your truck, pop the distributor cap off, and clean it out with WD-40 and a rag. I had to do this once, but in my case I got so much water in it that the engine died. Luck for me I had the WD-40 rolling around the bed and it will really help get the crud out of the distributor and cap. Hope this helps you bugeyed.
ROTCJS is right - it's not the EEC that's getting wet. You can get the distributor boot off a 5.0L Crown Vic/Grand Marquis/Town Car, &/or seal your distributor with silicone.
The CV has a rubber boot over its distributor that you can get from a junkyard (or maybe a dealer) and put on yours. It fits loosely, but I can say from experience that it helps.
