I need to know how to remove the needles of the instrument cluster, mainly the tachometer. I don't want to damage it because i don't know what I am doing. Are there any special tools required or a special technique?
Just pull straight and smooth and it'll pop off. The shafts of the gauges are steel needles, and the backs of the pointers have a tiny brass sleeve with a fine slot cut across it. As the sleeve presses onto the needle, it eventually builds enough friction to grab & stay. You just have to pull to get it to come off.
The worst part will be reinstalling the pointer, since you'll have no idea how the shaft has rotated since the pointer came off. I've put the needles back on my gas & volt gauges by installing them when I know where they should point, and then pressing the pointers back onto the shafts. You could let your truck idle and note EXACTLY where the tach pointer sits, and put it back the same way later.
