I did the mod to my truck yesterday and I have to say that is one of the easiest mods to do. It took about 20 minutes in -15 yesterday so I didn't even get cold. I have a piece of pipe left over if anyone is interested.
For those of you who don't know this mod is to incease the air flow to the motor. You take out the factory snorkel out of the fender which is about 2" in dia and replace with a piece of pipe that is 3". The cost is about $20.00, and the pieces you need are a 3" pvc pipe and a 3" rubber coupler.
Does it make a difference? I was thinking of doing that to my truck!
I will let you know, I have a few trips to make this week so I will find out and let you know. According to the people who have done it, it does just as much for the engine as a CAI.
As to do it, you remove a section about a foot long that goes in to the fender well from the air intake. You then take a piece of 3" pvc pipe and flatten the top and bottom of the pipe because the hole in the fender is oblong. The piece of pipe that goes into the fender is about 2 1/2" and I used a grinder to flatten the top and bottom. You put the piece of pipe in the fender with the 3" coupler than you put the rest of the intake pipe on and then join the two pieces with the coupler.
That should kame a fair bit of difference. Throttle response should be improved and top end. Just a guess mind you. I did similar to my PSD and it really helped.
Well after a week of driving I would say this mod is worth doing. My thortle response is much improved and it got rid of the flat spot around 60 kph. I know the butt dyno is not all that sophisticated or accurate and can be biased but, not this time. So for twenty bucks and 20 minutes I would recommend this mod to anyone
