Hey guys I am looking into buying a 7.3 from a good buddy of mine. My question is I live on Long Island New York, does the truck need to have a catalytic converter on it? It is a 2001 7.3 with a manual. Right now it is straight piped. I just don't know if I am going to get in a bind if I don't have a cat.
I tried to look up local laws but didn't find much about diesels having to have a cat on them.
Fair enough answer haha. This was on my mind tonight, and just figured someone from long island might chime in and give some advice. I just figured the DMV is going to tell me all vehicles need cats no matter what.
Somewhere under the hood it will say non catylist. Mine is a 2000 and it is on the hood above the radiator. Mine is from California brought to pa. It is 5'' straight.
Any personal vehicle should have a cat. If you are registering it from one state to another you might want to put one on it, they most of the time will do a visiual inspection to make sure everything is there. As far as a smog test you dont have anything to worry about, if you want to just throw(borrow) one from almost any truck so if they do a visual inspection thell see it there and be happy, when you get home just take it back off and youll never have to think about it again.
There pointless either way! lol, Dogs and Straight pipes!
All depends on what you want. A straight pipe versus that trash can Ford calls a muffler your looking at a bit of a drop in EGT's when towing or whatever with a straight pipe. A full flowing exhaust system like MBRP its state and fed compliant. As for the Cat converter, mine didn't come with one, and thats just a we bit better.
