front axle seal leaking

hello

I noticed the other day after my truck was parked on a bit of a angle there was diff oil from the passenger side on the ground. reading a bit on here i learned the axle seals are way in the front housing close to the front diff. and yesturday driving a heavy load around my front brake driver side got stuck on a bit and over heated and was smoking, couldnt even touch the rim it was so hot. anyway about this axle seal i got the hub off right now but cant seem to pull out the axle assembly through the knuckle but i see i have to pry and most likely wreck that seal. can someone please send me a link of piuctures or how to replace the axle seals in the housing. thanx i need the truck up and running in the next couple days

i actually just did my ujoints today, and had to replace the seals. i got the seals at the dealership(acutally cheaper there than at napa) but your looking at about $100 for the inner seals, and $50 for the outers. use this guide

Just ruin the seal to get it out with a screwdriver....Smack it towards the outside of the truck...

thanx for the info guys, tonight i got both axles out, i see i need to make a tool to install the new seals. i took the crown gear with the spider assembly out of the differential, i got both those oil seals out which were leaking and thats the main reason why its all apart now. tomorrow ill get new seals, the ball joints are fine but i think im going to replace them if i can find the right tools, and also replace the ujoints as well since everything is apart. the main cause for the passengers side oil leak is due to a ford auto hub is worn out completely, the spindle bearing and the stub axle bearing race are fine but the hub is toast, i think im going to buy the warn premium hubs because the computer doodad in the truck doesnt work for the auto hubs anyway.

The axle seals are easy to tear up - some folks have had success using pipe fittings to drive them on. We went ahead and bought the OEM tool from a local dlr - most folks just get their dealer to put them on.

Be careful driving the differential seals out and in, when I did mine I didn't know there was a plastic ramp in there I tore that up on one side, then when driving them in i assumed there was a stop in the axle tube and thre wasn't so I ruined a seal like that. On the big knuckel seals theres a speacial tool for driving them I highly recommend tracking one down

Smile Front differential help/leaking seal

New to the site, looking for a little advise/help on replacing the Inner Axle seal to include the removal of the spider gear. I've seen some great write ups on ball joints and hub seals but looking for some additional info. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I've seen pictures and other write ups on the removal of the spider gear. Wondering about the shims and getting the sucker back together, along with the best way to get the seals out and new ones in.

What are the odds that three of us are doing the same project today? lol I needed to replace my hub so I started that today. I wish I would have just replaced the hub and let it be, I would have been done before noon. In any event I can't find any info on 2 particular questions I have. The knuckle seal; I got a new one. I beat it all to hell trying to get it off of the short shaft and I can't get it to come off. Any tips? I used a mini sledge, pry bar, and a few other things and it just got really beat up. The other is the U Joint. Are the clips on the inside of the yokes? My truck is an 03 and I can't see any clips but I'm sure theyre there. I beat the drive shaft for about 30 minutes to no avail before I left the truck on jack stands for the night..
