Remove it and to clean it, let it soak in gasoline for a couple hours, and onces in a while during that time, take it out, shake it well, and drop it back in. Do this a good couple of times.
When done, let it dry by it self. DO NOT blow compressed air into it, it'll damage the diaphram inside.
Before installing make sure it's working properly.
On the top part, you'll notice a tiny vent hole. Put your mouth on it and your finger inside on the other side, where it connects to the back of the intake, blow into it and at the tip of your finger you should feel the diaphram inside move. If it doesn't, you need a new CDR.

Some blue smoke on cold start ups is rather normal on older diesels, as long as it clears up quick. Could also be do to worn injectors/IP.
this truck has 141,000 miles. when i got it there were 134,000 miles. I have no idea if it is original ip and injectors but i am guessing it is. The smoke lasted this morning about 10 minutes while it was warming up. Just started about three days ago and only on the first start for the day. seems to be harder to start than usual also.
