Parking brake hanging up on drivers side (again)
Cable needs replaced (again)
Did a search and found out this is a common problem (parking brake hanging up).
My question is there a better brand of parking brake cable to buy(Motorcraft, NAPA, etc) that would last longer.
Seems like I'm messing with it every few years.
I have this issue right now with right rear (passenger side) wheel. How hard is it to change out cables - I have a 1994 2.3L manual transmission? I guess since I would be changing out the right, I should change out the left too.
You need to remove brake shoes/springs to remove old cable. Cable is retained by ring with tabs all the way around. Use screwdriver to press on tabs to release from backing plate. You have to slightly compress spring on new cable to reattach to arm of emergency brake cable. Pull opposite side drum for reference so you get all the pieces back together properly.

It's a medium PIA (I have always hated drum brakes).
Personally, I have more problems with the drivers side than the pass. side. Years ago, when I first had this problem, I replaced all the cables (drums, shoes, and hardware also) thinking I wouldn't have to mess with it for a while. This will be the third time I'm replacing the drivers side cable. If the pass. side is not hanging up, leave it alone.
Now if you want to replace the everything go for it.
