Any tranny experts here? My tranny will not go into gear a majority of the time. If I keep messing with column shifter it will eventually go into gear. The last time I got it into gear; the truck would only move forward even when shifter was in nuetral. I've read different accounts of the internal linkage coming out of a sleeve? The tranny was rebuilt before I purchased the truck. Once you get it in gear it drives and shifts fine but never really seems to take off in low. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Eric
Is it indexing correctly? There is a guide in side the column that the shifter indexes to and the tangs on the shift arm wear off or the guide breaks.
Is it a green dot? These can sometimes funky shift if the correct pattern is not followed.
Rebuilt by a PO? i would really question that.
I have a good C6 truck builder here at the house if you need it.

Got her fixed Dave! Linkage inside tranny was out of place. Tranny had been rebuilt and never adjusted shift rod correctly. It would go to far into Park and throw the internal linkage outta whack. Shifts like new now. Yes; it's the green dot tranny and I drive it in that position. Thanks for the offer on C-6. http://www.network54.com/Forum/26073...quick+question

What is the difference in the green-dot tranny v.non? Takes off in second or something like that?
Jim
Basically. When you set shift selector at the small dot or what appears to be Drive; the tranny takes off in second and shifts to third. This was for slippery conditions such as rain and snow. It kept the wheel speed down when taking off. Shifting to the big or green dot and taking off started you in low and shifted up through third. These were called "dual range" C-O-M's. The whole idea confused many drivers thus Ford dropped the design.
