ok we all have seen them at the auto parts the after market reusable "high flow" air filters that have the 3.5/4/5 in opening was wondering if any one has used it on there diesel they have one thats like 8 in long and like 6in at the base i want one but i just cant spend the 100+ for a name brand i have used other off brand things in the past for other projects and have had good luck just wondering what yall think of them
deffinetly go with the napa 6637 filter. i have them on my 95 and 00 and i love them. it cost me like 45$ and i built a stainless elbow for it it looks badass
From what I have heard (not my personal experience, so take this for what it is worth) the "reusable" type filters do not do as good a job of filtering the air for our turbo diesel engines.
You can either buy a NAPA (or Baldwin) 6637 air filter and build your own system using a 45* elbow or buy a premade kit with the parts and a nice prefilter cover like this: Riffraff Diesel: RDP 6637 Filter Kit
Both setups highly recommended here on the site. I'll be doing one or the other myself here shortly, I just haven't decided which as of yet. The Riffraff kit is a complete solution and has the prefilter, but I am cheap, ahem I mean "thrifty", and really enjoy building my own stuff so I may just buy a 6637 online (ba;dwin 6637 filter - Google Search) or so and build my own setup.

Reason: added link for online filter
this is mine. its not a napa or a baldwin, mines a donaldson, same as they use on the big rigs, cost me like 35$ at the local international dealer. if you have a K&N filter in your truck, take it out and burn it, your just sand blasting your turbo.
ya ive heard to much bad about the k&n for our trucks besides price. now does the pre filter make a lot of difference i see a few like to run them is it becasue of looks? i see you dont run one 82-f150. i think im going to just make one like yall did i dont have a international dealer near by any more but i do have anapa thanks guys also does it make a difference that some kits have that neat little half box around the filter? oh and i like how you have the 6.0 for sale 82-f150 but not the 7.3
I did buy pre filter covers from riffraff.. I haven't had them long enough to notice an advantage yet.. I'm sure it catches some dust. Yea I love my 6.0L but my grand dad left me the 2000 350 and I can't afford to keep both and I couldent part with the 7.3 :P
I did have the stock-replacement-drop-in K&N, but I switched to the filter in my signature. I think I am the only one in this site that has tried this filter. I love it! I don't have the fancy SS elbow shown above. I just cut the spout off the stock air box and this filter fit right on. Total cost is $66 + shipping. Its good for 4 yrs or 100k miles when it isn't neglected. All you have to do is blow it out, no oiling or anything like that.
I have the K&N intake kit and I love it but alot of talk about them not good for turbos. I just can see myself with the 6637 filter so I want to know some things about the filter you have (Amsoil EaA4095) I look it up also, but want to know how long have you used it and what you think.

Whats the part number of that Donaldson Filter? Is it a cross for the napa 6637?
That's still the 4 inch inlet on that one right? I think it's the same one I keep getting. I don't even keep track of the number. I just go into the filter place and say let me have it. Then bend over and they give it to me. I run donaldson everything pretty much. I had been running mobil 1 oil filters but I recently found donaldson has a much bigger one that fits and is even lower microns. I sure hope it doesn't drag the ground when I install it tomorrow.
