I am looking at a 48' Featherlite gooseneck trailer with a GVWR of 14000. I need to find a truck that to pull it that will have a GVWR of less than 12000.
I would really like a 2006 or newer F350 4wd with drw. Problem is I cannot find anything less than 13000.
Both GM and Chrysler make trucks 2006 or newer that are both 4wd, drw, and come in at less than 12000.
It looks as though if I want to stick with Ford I need to go with an older (and less reliable) model truck.
Call you state DMV and see if they will let you derate a truck to 12k. I don't know what the DOT would think of that though since it would be on your door sticker but different in registration. I don't see why pulling a trailer thats rated to carry more matters to the DOT if you never actually carry that much. I got a class A CDL to get rid of that problem.
In ND the door sticker doesn't mean squat. I can not register my SD for 10,000 lbs. It's pretty much impossible. The DMV has a lower limit for each vehicle, or so they said.
Right now I'm registered at 26,000 lbs as a Large Truck. The pickup schedule only went to 20,000lbs. In this case here I'm registered for more weight, at a cheaper price. I could register for more, but most instances 26,000 covers me, and my towing needs.
