Trukin' Magazines 2006 Dualie Shootout
Trukin' Magazine Volume 32 No 9 WWW.TRUKINWEB.COM
1. 2006 Chevrolet 3500 3LT Crew 4WD
2. 2006 Ford F350 King Ranch Crew Cab 4WD
3. 2006 Dodge 3500 Laramie Ram Mega Cab 2WD
I was very disapointed that the chevy won. It only won because it cost less and was more sporty. It towed 12,000lbs, 4000lbs. less than the rest. ITS A DUALIE. I would have put it Ford,Dodge, then Chevy. CHECK IT OUT.

I dont get it how does chev win towing 4000 pounds less weight then the other trucks honestely shuve chevs EDIT they actully EDIT chev pays big bucks to be said there # 1 in order in real life no little chevy fariy tales becaause both ford and dodge haul more than any chev, end of story chev needs to take the bite cause it its only towing 12k and the otheres for 4k more it makes them better at 12k the chev wobbles the others dont at a higher weight what does that mean weak frame chevy boys EDIT.

The pricing was way off. I checked Chevy's online MSRP for a truck with a comparable trim level to the Laramie or the King Ranch. First off they didn't have one, you have to build it. Secondly they don't even offer half the stuff. I have sent e-mail after e-mail to them over them being slighted to GM and they won't publish or respond to anything like that. Last year they did a 1/2 azz article on the Texas Heat Wave, chevys only naturally and 2 pages on a show that had over 1000 entries. They suck and I cancelled my subscription.

I got a new Diesel magazine just for kicks, and they did a shoot out between the three and, although they said the Chevy was the quickest, they seemed to think the Ford was a better truck if any real weight was going to be towed. They liked the Dudge, but in not so many words the Ford won. Myself I take these comparisons with a grain of salt, they seem to choose the truck to wins for stupid reasons like softer ride or which has the biggest cup holders. We all know which trucks are best and it ain't made from Isuzu or Mercedes!!!

93RangerXL4x2, perhaps you should improve your basic grammatical skills before trying to talk all bad.
There's nothing wrong with that Chevy, nor the Dodge, nor the Ford. It's really sad when evidence is presented the hardcore fans on here seem to think that it's completely incorrect unless Ford comes out on top. Ford's not always best, fellas. Otherwise, you'd see nothing else.
I don't see Ford setting the bar...since it's pretty obvious GM is selling way better. Would you like to show us all 93RangerXL4x2 where "Fords settign the bar again" as you said?

How many people buy a truck because some magazine recommended it? Are you really swayed by what may, or may not be the bias of a writer? Perhaps the writer of a certain article has never had to haul a 5 ton trailer up a grade of dirt every day for 8 months. (just as an example). Perhaps he would rather have a cushy ride and a nice sound system over pure guts. Wouldn't his bias show through regardless of the brand? I would think so. Writers are consumers too.
Don't you buy your truck to fit your individual need? I do. Ford fits my need and has for years. But then, I use my truck, as a truck. Plenty of fleet buyers see it that way as well. How many construction and utility companies do you honestly see driving Chevs or Dodge? Do you think they consult the newest issue of 'trucks monthly' before they purchase/lease? More likely, they go with what they know works best. Sure, price is a factor, everyone has a bottom line. People that really depend on their trucks to earn their living buy according to need, dependibility and capacity to perform the job. It is no secret that Ford leads in that market segment and has for a long, long time.

Here is a small list of why the Chevy won, and some you can understand why, and other don't make alot of sense.
1. The chevy weighs the least.
2. It feels racy and nimble.
3. It accelerates faster. (unloaded)
4. Dated chasis architecture. (New design 2007)?
5. Costs the least. (Not comparably equiped)
6. Tow/Haul setting
Some Negatives that were mentioned
1. weaker frame
2. engine bogs when floored at 55-65mph
3. Freeway hop (All trucks had it because stiff 1 ton springs)
4. Independent front suspension
5. uses power steering pump to help power brakes. (hard on pump when turning and stopping at same time.(it groans) making both more difficult.)
6. Front brakes should be larger.
7. Less interior space
8. Driver seat doesn't recline enough.
9. Chevy tows 12,000, Ford 15,000, and Dodge 15,600
This are all things that came from the article. I didn't analyze anything. Personally when it comes to a one ton dualies the chevy doesn't compete with the other. Ford and Dodge should have broght out 3/4 trucks to compete with the Chevy one ton.
