starter stays on when running. and stayed on when key was out. had to disconnect batt. to turn it off.
what could be the problem?
i just replaced the starter selinoid 2 weeks ago.
ps. i wrecked my van and it was in a ditch on its side for 4 hrs. 1/20/11
took out plugs cranked it over for a bit.
installed plugs started right up, ran it for 30 mins last night (no white smoke)
today i got the problem above.
As the video says, if you mis wire the solenoid, the starter will continue to run as you have described. If it is unclear how it should be wired check a local parts store for information or your local library for the technical manual section (likely in reference section)
There are a few things that can make a starter stay engaged. Less likely is the starter is not aligned or loose. Yours sounds electrical. There's an electro magnet that makes the starter gear push out to engage the flywheel. For one reason or another the contacts will arc and burn and sometimes weld the contacts in the engaged position. That's what yours sounds like.
