OEM or mod?

Oh boy, here we go, this is a touchy question. The purists of course say stock, rodders want everything changed, then the restro rod guys just improve on an already good product. I fall into the 3rd category. If you use something every day, or for a certain purpose, it should be upgraded, and updated. I would not hesitate to change even a really clean example of a vehicle. That being said, I'm going to duck, so when it starts flying, It will miss me.

Depends on the rig and its intended use for me.
I've never driven a Ford truck for long before I start trying to unlock the engine's true potential. The hot rod gene is strong in this one.
Done right and dialed-in a modded engine should be just as reliable as stock within reason. No worries with a 300 unless you're shooting for 400hp.

I think Dusty hit the nail on the head for me. "If you use something everyday, it should be upgraded and updated."
My daily driver is a 30 year old vehicle with an engine that was designed 45 years ago. I was six months old when it was constructed.
It needs to be updated and brought into the times.

How do you get around the computer with the performance parts?
I would like to have a lopey cam if possible (why does nobody like lopey cams?)!

you have to go with mas air, 94 or newer, then use a 5.8 throttle body. biger injecters, and you are good. if you want bigger, you have to go with mega squirt. clifferd had a 270 cam that you could use with the computer, it has a little lope to it, but not radical. but as you have heard, that, and many other items are no longer available. the last 2 270 cams I bought used.

I love a lopey cam. For me it is just not a cam unless I can hear it. That is why I may go with the Isky 262 over the Comp 260. With the 108 LSA, as opposed to the 110, I should be able to hear it lope. When a cam is loping strongly, you lose vacuum. That is why some people don't care for them.
IIRC, there was a guy who posted all the mods he had done with his EFI 300, and he swore it didn't bother the computer. He had ported his head extensively, cam, etc.

And I always thought as you do; it's not a cam unless I can hear it!

I've always preferred modded trucks, granted my previous trucks have either been stock or darn close to it so I never really had to carry spares with me. Now that my current 83 is going to be modded with Intake/Carb/Headers a 3g alternator swap and taurus electric fans I'm probably going to have to carry some spare parts with me.
Though I don't expect any major breakage, we are talking about the big six here!
