not really. part of headlight power goes through the dimmer switch. when i chagned mine it was the original. a friend of mine suggested to change it. so through prosses of elemination. im now at a stand still. i just went through every wire harness under the hood and found no bad connections and did find that headlights on my truck are powered from both sides.
The oem wiring one these trucks is marginal from the factory. After 30 or 40 years of wear and tear(and numerous owners "fixing" the wiring), you get problems.
since I've had my truck. I replaced 2 head light switches 1. H/L beam switch
Cleaned every front and rear light socket a few times to keep my lights in working order..
orich
I was having the same problem on my 67 with the lights flickering and turning off, then on at will. I don't know how or why but it ended up being my high beam floor switch. I changed it a month ago and no problems yet.
has anyone found a company that makes a replacement for the electrical part on the back. mine is starting to seperate and i will need to relace it at some point.
It's a very universal item, used in one form or another on many vehicles up till about the 1980s. You should be able to walk into any auto parts store and buy one right off the shelf.
