another ect/eot question

from what i have read 15 degrees is acceptable and 25 is the limit. now its like 25-30 degrees here in central ny and according to my edge insight my ect is about 166 and my eot is 192. my question is it that cause its cold out or is there something wrong?

When measured under the proper operating conditions, an EOT temp of more than 15F above ECT temp is indicative of a problem. Your ECT readings are lower-than-normal and may be due to the cold. What operating conditions are you taking these readings under, e.g., how long has engine been running, at what speed, etc?

Mine did that because the thermostat was stuck partially open...something to think about.

I agree with the others, it appears your thermostat may be sticking. I replaced my t-stat last summer and in 30 degree weather my ECT will reach 185F after 30 minutes of highway speed operation.

A restricted oil cooler is restricting flow to the egr cooler regardless of
the actual ECT and EOT temps and the delta between them.
So, w/o replacing the t-stat, you can't tell whether you have the problem or not.

It's not like the bad t-stat is keeping things from going bad, you just can't tell if anything else is bad or not. So, don't believe keeping the bad t-stat
is a good thing.

At least that is how it seems to me.

I don't think there is any way to tell.
I am kicking myself, for not replacing the t-stat first.
Then seeing what the delta was on the hi-way.
But, it was "easier" to flush the coolant w/o the t-stat in
so I did it that way. Then put the new t-stat in
along with the fresh coolant.
Now, with the new oil & egr coolers going in, the coolant is
getting changed again, but heck it's only a few bucks more.

So, I'll never know if the oil cooler was plugged before or after
I did the flush with vc9.
