Ya its been dragging here lately and that's what i think it is. Before it went out it made like a grinding noise. I just don't want to pay for a new starter and it's not what the problem is.And thanks i'm sure glad i found this site you guys are great!!!

Yup sounds like the starter gear is not kicking out and engaging. Or like he said gears worn down. Luckily its an easy fix, if you got the money.
Ok, just read all the post that went up while I was posting. Yes, it does sound like the bendix is not kicking the starter gear out. Make sure you batteries are up to par before digging in too deep. Check those connections as well.
No it ain't the solenoid they ain't no clicking. It sounds like the starter is worn down. Its turning but just ain't catching anything. I'm new at diesels and didn't know if it could be something else.
