Two years ago when I got my DP tuner all I installed was the 40t and 80e. The travel trailer I ended up buying doesn't weight #6000 fully loaded. I've been towing it in the 40t mod but doen't like the lack of power. Talked with Dianne and was told to give it a try in 80 as long as EGT's were monitored. I know to get out of overdrive when temps go up and to not lug the engine. I'm gona tow on over to Pheonix Raceway this Feb, but was wondering if anyone had any real life exerience towing around this weight in 80e. I've read on here "don't ever tow in 80e, don't even think about it, stop, no right turn, keep off the grass..." but think that might be for the heavy loads.
Thanks much.
Keep an eye on your EGT's, don't hammer it at every stop sign and I don't see a problem. I have flatbed trailers that weigh more than that empty that I can yank around with no problem.
Our tt is close to #7500lbs and I've towed in 80e,I started off kinda easy cause the shift strategy for the economy tunes is not set for towing, but other than that you'll be fine...just watch your egts close and enjoy the surplus of towing power. I'm sending my chip in for an 80t,but just haven't had time to do it.
My trailer is a 28 foot wildcat wieghing 11000 lbs and I tow mine in 80e. I started towing in 60tow but it did not seem like enough power so I switched to towing in the 80 tune and its great. I watch my temps all the time and so far have had no problems.
