As John mentioned the better route would be to purchase a donor; however, if for some reason one can't then local auto parts store should carry it. Prefer Napa because IMO they tend to carry quality merchandise, not to say some are not imported. I would probly hit a salvage yard look for a 72-78 truck that did not appear to have any front end damage and steering box looked in decent condition, it has been a few yrs since last salvage shopped but probly cost lot less than a new $180 box; or, see if a rebuilt is available for considerably less.
There are some good articles here if you are looking to do a conversion to power steering. You will need more than a P/S box though. The donor route would be a good way to go to get all the parts you need for a conversion, if you have the room for the donor to sit while you strip off what you need.
If you are looking for a good low mileage manual box, I have one that I bought for my '66 F100 before I decided to go with power steering.

Sorry, I was in the P/S mindset when you were asking for the source for an original box. Have not seen them in Ford parts catalog; however, see them on ebay on regular basis although not sure what your buying. I would be interested whether the 66-66 manual box is interchangeable with later model Ford truck, or if interchangeable with other Ford model vehicles, perhaps a member can provide the info. See where an Ebay seller list manual box to cover 65 thru 79; if so, certainly would provide addition list of steering box sources; although, can't alway believe an ebay seller's item description, alway do some research. Anyhow, food for thought.
dave, I bought a manual box before I converted to P/S and the parts manual says '65-72 same box; however it is a '64-'72 listing only, so maybe they fit beyond that, IDK.
ldwaldon, you will need to determine if it is a stock P/S box, as I recall, P/S was not available for F100's until Nov '66, and then it was a Bendix setup.
Apparently, Bendix boxes are hard to find and are junk anyway. Changing to a Ford box involves using a shorter steering column.
He probably needs to assess what he has vs. what he will need if that is the route he plans on taking. He has not furnished enough information for opinions, he only says it is worn out.
it is a stock box. it's just very loose. i've checked everything else so i figured i would replace the box. ther was a thred on here awhile back and sombody gave a name of a aftermarket box with a lifetime warranty but i can't remember what it was.
There are next to no new parts for Bendix P/S, except for the master seal kit, and since it's obsolete, it's only available from a few Ford Dealers and obsolete parts vendors.
BENDIX P/S: 1966/68 F100/250 2WD & 1969 F100/250 2WD before serial number D96,001.
FORD P/S: 1969 F100/250 2WD & F350 from serial number D96,001 / 1970/79 F100/250 2WD / 1970/78 F350 / 1979 F350 2WD.
FORD P/S with 4WD: 1977/79 F150 / 1977 F250 4WD from serial number Y20,001 (not a High Boy) / 1978/79 F250 / 1979 F350.
Ford P/S used after 1979, but the parts are not compatible to 1979 or earlier...because 1980 and later trucks are totally different.
