WELL, I posted a message but not sure where it went. :O(. I'm new, still getting used to the site. Anyway,,,,,
The Bendix PS on my 65' Ranger went bad so I replaced it with a 74' unit. The 74' neck was longer which pushed the steering wheel closer to me so I removed the steering column and cut 3" out of it. Welded it all back together and it works perfect. Lot of work if you don't weld but its a great fix for the problem of power steering. Also mounted the 74' disc brakes on my 65. They also work great.

If not mistaken primary issue from going from Bendix to Ford p/s box is if truck has a column shift which then leaves couple options, shortening column, column from later model, or an aftermarket.

Hi Dave. My 65' came with factory auto trans with column shift. Wasn't really interested in going to an after market column, so I just cut through all 3 sections of the stock column and welded them back together. Wanted to keep the factory column look and didn't know at the time if other year columns would fit. Still don't. Didn't really care at the time since it wasn't really a big deal for me to cut and weld the stock column.
It was the neck on the 74' PS unit that was longer, which in turn set the steering wheel 3" up into the cab. Funny thing was though, at the time, I didn't really know I would be needing to cut the column shorter. After I got the PS box in and linked up, there was no looking back. :O)
