This is not technically diesel related, but I know a lot of you guys use AE.
I just got my AE a few weeks ago and have been playing with it. Last week a buddy and I supercharged his 2000 5.4 F250. We would like to be able to see his air fuel ratio in AE. Is that possible...if so how? I'm still learning with AE, but I have really liked it so far. Thanks for any help.
I have the AE, but haven't played with it on a gasser too much. I'll have to look into it. I have the current updates on mine and have been wanting to try it out on my wife's 2010 Sport Trac.
I've never looked it up on a gas motor to see what the options are, but on the drop down menu for the 2 table and 4 table display, I'm not sure that it will tell you what the A.F.R. is. Since you can only look up something on the engine that is has a sensor to measure, I'm pretty sure the 5.4 motors just use the MAF sensor and the o2 sensors to control the AFR and fuel trim.
I think you would have to look at what the o2 sensors are reading, and the look up what their values mean, to be able to tell how rich or lean it is running.
Unless is has a drop tab for the AFR, but i'm pretty sure it doesn't.
The oxygen sensor is what you have to read like Ziggy mentioned. I have done it with an '05 Explorer and it came up on the list. The Explorer is OBD II CAN BUS so it may have more options that the '00 you are working with.
Ziggy, that is kind of what I was thinking to. I'll see what I can find on the O2 sensor values. I guess I can essentially use the O2 sensor readings as a narrow band AFR gauge of sorts. I told him if he gets a wild hair he is more than welcome to buy a wideband O2 gauge kit. We'll get it dialed in tonight...gotta go camping tomorrow.

I've used my AE on all kinds of Fords and the options vary depending on the vehicle. Our 2004 Expedition had all kinds of stuff that wasn't available on my 7.3 truck. Mostly emissions related options. I think I remember seeing something in the O2 Sensors tab about fuel ratio...
Sometimes it's easier to change the system to something more specific. Again, some vehicles will have more systems available than others. Most of us normally use the Enhanced Powertrain system because it's what we need for the diesel stuff but there are others such as Anti-Lock brake, GEM, Overhead console, Park Aid, Tire Pressure monitor etc. You can choose the desired system during connection routine or if already connected you can use the pull down menu to change systems (I think it's Vehicle>Change System)
One final note, I have sometimes tricked AE into showing me what I want. For instance, when I connect to my '99 PSD, I don't get an option for trans fluid temp in degrees. I only get the volt value of the sensor and I have to use another conversion program. However, when I connect to my '00 PSD the trans temp appears in degrees. So, if I want to see trans temp on my '99 I tell AE that it's a 2000 and it works fine. I used to have a similar issue with TC slip actual as well (appeared in 2000 but not 1999) but that issue was resolved with one of the recent updates. There are probably a lot of other discrepancies between years still so maybe they will be addressed in future updates.
PM me if you want the conversion program. It will convert sensor volt values to temperature in Fahrenheit. It has radio buttons for ECT, EOT, TFT and ACT.
Thanks Greg. We were able to get it tuned pretty well yesterday. It's not BAD out of the box. I watched the O2 sensors via AE and it gave me a pretty good idea of what we were doing. It pulls pretty good now, but today with the 5th wheel will be the real test.
I played with AE in my 04 Expedition on the way to work yesterday and found that there are a lot more listed sensors than on a Super Duty 5.4. Makes sense, but left me wanting a little more.
I don't have a working copy of AE but I have been using torque for android. in torque you can add any PID you want to it. The trick is finding a list of the PID's. Apparently For has approx 3500 PID's that are not included in a standard subset of obd2 tools. These range from airbag and specific vehicle history as well as sensors. If I ever find them without having to pay a $7500.00 subscription fee I will be posting for sure.
