Can anyone tell me what size valves are in the '69 windsor heads. Looking to see if buying these will be a cheap performance upgrade over my smogger '78 heads.
'C9OE 351 heads had 60cc combustion chambers with 1.84/1.54 valves versus 69cc chambers and 1.78/1.45" valves in the D8OE 351 heads. Swapping on the '69 heads will boost compression from about 8.4 to 9.2 and improve airflow so yeah it'll be a performance boost, but weather it's a cheap upgrade or not is another story because these early heads were not fitted with hardened valve seats so they will have to be added otherwise you may not get 10k out of them.
As Conanski said, the 1969 or 1970 351W heads are better than most all of the later
factory heads but were designed for leaded fuel which is not available now. To
survive todays fuel these heads will have to have hardened valve seats installed in
them or they will have a very short life which you won't like.
