Dirty Gas Lines?
351 V-8, Holley carb.
Did brakes, tires, greased and oiled all the necessary undercarriage parts.
Changed tranny gaskets, stopped a slow leak so that was good. Choke seemed to be stuck, so I unstuck it, tightened it up.
New battery, fuel pump and fuel filter. New belts. Heck, even buffed out rust on the body and installed new seat belts (not that they help the truck run at all).
Was having trouble idling (it would idle at 800rpms and then die) but today I put in new plugs, re-did the timing, and worked on adjusting the carb float. Took a few hours to get everything running right, idled for a long while. On the way to test drive it and to the local gas station she just konked out on me.
I keep thinking the gas tank must be fouled, because there is an awful lot of carbon burning up and shooting out the back. The original fuel filter and pump
were a sticky mess, but I figured that was due to sitting and age.
So now what? Check the new fuel filter? Do I really have to get a whole new tank?
Thanks,
psyverson

Is it dirty gas or bad tuning?
Look for the obvious first:
Drain the tank/lines and replace fuel filter.
No inprovement?
Look for problems with spark/timing.
Still no help?
Get that carb refunded and replaced.
Try using the stock carb and flush out the fuel system.
Still no workey?
Sell it to a fool.
The engine is shot, needs valves and rings.
