I have a 1995 Ford F150 with a 302 V-8 automatic with overdrive transmission I would like to change my rear end gears to improve my gas mileage does anybody have any suggestions. It is 2WD and has stock 15' on front and 31's on back. I do not know what gears are in it now but I know it is getting about 300 miles out before it runs both fuel tanks dry. I had another F150 that was an extended cab that was getting about 450 miles before it would run out both trucks was 95 F150 with stock tires and 302 engines with automatic overdrive transmissions only difference is one was one extended cab and one is standard cab long bed.

Reason: answering some questions
*riced out honda civic owners voice* c'mon guys everyone knows that a rwd pickup has front gears, god i cant believe you people thinkin you know stuff about vehicles *end joke*
3:73 is the magic gear for these trucks as long as ur tires are 31's or smaller. its just my opinion however. alot of guys on here would say 4:10 but i think thats too high 4 31's and less..
here is a craigslist ad i found
I have a older but never used offset dana 60. It has a 7.17 gear ratio. I bought to make a front axle and sold truck before i had the chance to build it

Chances are it's a 3.55 and someone doesn't know how to figure out gear ratios!
