10.25 axle differences

Last mirror post, trying to hit all that might deal with the 10.25

Not sure if anyone will know...

Any specific differences in them through the years? Are some wider than others? Will parts from one bolt to another?

I have a SF (semi float) 10.25, but since I've had the detroit locker in my hands, need a full floater.

My concerns are as follows.

I have the stupid 7 lug wheels. I can either get New wheels and figure how to make the front hubs 8 lug, or keep my wheels (actually preferred so I don't have to spend more money) and make the rear hubs 7 lug.

Disc brakes and parking brake. I seriously doubt that my existing equipment will fit. So I want to get a disc brake with drum parking brake setup. Which years should I look for? Did they even have them on 10.25 or was it just the 10.5 version?

Hub width. How far out does the hub protrude from the center of the wheel. Are there different track widths? Brackets and such I'm not worried about since I can get them rewelded.

So, you ask, why not get a different truck. I like the f150 look, and I go through too many vehicles so I am trying to keep this one, I also like modifying things.

Chris

Why would you want to put a full floating axle into the truck you will have alot of unsprung weight your 150 won't have the 10.25 rear it has a 8.8 Ford Corporate. The F-250 LD had the 7 bolt wheels and the 10.25 semifloating rear if you want a HD 3/4 ton buy one but don't try make a 1/2 ton into one doesn't work.

Personally I would leave it alone why spend a bunch of money canibalizing your truck for nothing if you need a detroit locker get one for the rear axle thats in your truck simple as that.

Its not "simple as that". They don't make a detroit for the semi floater. Otherwise I would have it. I don't want Full Float axles for the sake of FF axles, I want them so I can have a detroit. If I knew of a way to retain the axles without the C-clips I would do that and keep the semifloat rear.

And read my script, I HAVE THE HD F150 7700 aka F250 LD and I HAVE THE 10.25 SEMIFLOATER REAR. I'm not trying to MAKE a 3/4 ton anything out of a 1/2 ton anything. I already have it and am very happy with it. I was just wowed by the strength and performance of the Detroit and the only way to get one is to get a FF 10.25, or a SF 8.8, but I'm not going backwards. I don't want an SD truck because its just that much bigger. I love the way they look too, but I would rather make mine what I want than try to buy something that isn't.

So my unsprung weight won't change by a whole lot. 'Bout the only thing extra will be the extra weight of seperate hubs and the weight of the detroit.

Its only canibalizing if its not done right. I don't canibalize. If you want canibalized you should see the '86 Toyota 4 runner with 12 inches of lift and a '84 Pickup cab on it sitting at the shop. Thats canibalized!
