Hey guys I have a E99 F350 SC LB 4x4 7.3L. Im looking into getting a plow but Im not sure which is better...A belt driven pump or an electric over hydralic pump? Now i dont have dual alternators or the high amp one(i dont believe). Also with the belt driven pump where would you mount it under the hood?...from what i can tell there isnt a lot of room with the diesel. and with the low rpms (compared to a gasser) would I need to change the pully on the pump so it spins faster? and also the plow im looking at they dont know what it came off of so does anyone know the measurements I need or what I need to measure to make sure it will mount to my truck? Thanks in advance for the help.
Electric over hydraulic, you can't be it. With the newer models everything leaves the truck except the frame and a few wires you can hide. Keeps it looking neat. I have used both, and they both work very well except all the crap you have to leave on the truck. I have a Western pro plow on mine.
Hope this helps.
Deffinetly electric/hydaulic such as a Fisher minute mount or something similar. Plows that use an engine driven pump can be notoriously slow and take up more room under the hood. The best thing with the newer models is that everything comes off the truck when you unhook except for the controls and push plates, much cleaner looking imo. I am partial to Fishers (I've had 3 and never had a problem)
I don't think that you can even get belt driven plows any more. Electric over hydraulic is the only way to fly though.
By the way we run a 9 foot Fisher on the 06 at work. If I put a plow on my truck it will likely be a Boss just because I've been pretty disappointed in the back-dragging performance of the Fisher but past that the Fisher is a great plow.

I know you could get a belt driven minute mount when they first came out but I've never seen one in the newer models. I do know that they have a pump for the 7.3 though, but your right electric/hydraulic is the only way to go. I just put my plow on for the storm were currently getting so this post caught my eye lol.

Your plow works so good, it makes the grass look green
Thank you everyone for all your replies. I greatly appreciate it...so the plow im looking at has the belt driven pump....can i switch it to Elec/hydr? and also I dont know what it came off of so would you know what measurements to take to find out if it will fit my 350???

Do you know what brand of plow it is? I know that on fishers any plow will fit any truck as long as it has the correct push plates installed. It may be that way with boss, meyers, etc too. Depending on the plow you can probably switch it to electric/hydraulic but it may not be cost efficent, unless your getting the plow at a really good price.
I am not sure what brand of plow it is...how do i find that out? (i didnt see any markings) and I imagine i should be getting a good deal on it Im buying it from my job b/c they dont use it anymore
"Well this is the wrong year truck for this forum but it fits the plow description."
I see the snow took your Fisher decal I've never seen one last more than a few seasons
The ones on the back are still there and they're the ones that matter. We got that blade used and in its previous life it was not babied. I believe the head gear is actually racked slightly because the truck mount is brand new but I've got to hit one pin with a hammer in order to get it to line up and go in. Tried lubricating it to no avail. And no not WD-40 I took the pins out and greased them and looked for any other issues I could see.
And to the OP: If you could get pictures up I'm sure that between all of us here we could identify it. That being said sometimes free gets pretty expensive when you're trying to retrofit and figure things out.
My opinion is Boss only! Boss V-plows are way better than any Western. The plows use hydro power to move the wings forward and spring back. This saves wear and tear on the pump and your alternator. Boss cutting edges with the curb gaurds last 3 times as long as Westerns also. Lastly, whatever plow you buy, don't buy a steel plow, poly is the only way to go! Take the information as reliable since I have commercially plowed for 5+ years and used to run a Western but have run a Boss for 3 years now.
