2.8 dist. conversion

hi i gave my grandson a 85 broncoII that has a 2.8 with the tfi ignition system that has been sitting out back for over 10 years..the wiring harness is complete trash from sitting and being used as a rat breeding shed...i am retired and was trying to teach him how to work on his own rig...i have got it running with the tfi mounted remote with a heatsink using a toggle switch and no computer hooked up..and a old motorcraft carb ..but cant get it to run good enough for my grandson to use as a hunting buggy..i think he should change the dist. over to a duraspark with a gm module to make it run better but cant seem to find one on any old rigs i have around here..what i was needing to know is how many years did the 2.8 have the dura-spark dist.. with a vacuum advance..and on which vehicles should i look for the one i need..or someone who has one, or any suggestions on how to make this truck run good enough for him to use..his budget is very low for this project and he is just looking for a way to make it a useable offroad rig

Ford 2.8 v6s ran duraspark on Mustang IIs, Pinto's, and Mercury Capri's from 74 - 81.

thanks..i'll look out back tomorrow.i have a couple of old mustangII out back..but i know one had a 302..cant remember whats in the other one... i called the parts store and he said a rebuilt dist. was only 60.00 so i might just have him get that....the grandson will just have to break open his piggy bank..i gave him the truck but the parts are up to him...think i will look for a smaller carb out back while im digging around..the one we have on it now is from a old ford V/8 and may be too much carb....
