Overdrive Question

I have a 97 F-150, 4.6L, 4x4, fully loaded, 167K. I have noticed that when the weather is cold, it takes longer for the transmission to shift into OD. No matter what I try,lettting off the gas, etc.. it wont change into OD until it seems like it gets a certain temp. Funny thing is my Dad has the same truck, except his is not 4x4, and he is having the same issue. I am not sure which tranny we have. Any ideas?

The tranny fluid isnt hot enough. MY truck does the same thing when its extremely cold. Also the truck might be trying to keep the RPM up higher to get the engine to warm up quicker.

Im not sure of the actual reason, but i know that its normal.

97 4.6 F-150 came with a 4r70 tranny.

My truck is an 05, but my owners manual says this is normal in cold temparatures, and its waiting for the fluid to warm before resuming normal shift points.
