I have an 2004 Crew Cab. Two dome light "Pods". One in the far back and one over the front row. I have two map lights on each "Pod". All of them work just fine. The dome lights in the middle of each one do not. Bulbs are new, but the socket is not hot.
Yes i have looked for bad fuses, but cannot find a block labeled "dome light, interior, or courtesy light" on the fuse pannl chart.
Sounds like you might have a bad GEM Module, or possibly a bad ground wire. I think GEM stands for General Electronics Module, and it controls the dome light. The map lights on the sides can still work. Good luck.
I just bought a 2005 F350. Exact same problem. I have found a few guys on another forum with the same issue, so it seem common. Has anyone found the fix yet?
There is no GEM on a 2004. It was eliminated on 2003 and newer vehicles. The courtesy light function was replaced by the HEC (Hybrid Electronic Cluster, aka the instrument cluster.)
On a 2004, check fuses 35 and 41. They provide power for the courtesy lights and the battery saver relay respectively. The fuse panel changed in 2005 so I can't tell fuse numbers for them.
The first thing to check is to make sure the light does not come on with the switch on the dash. If it does, your problem is more likely a sticky door switch than anything else.
Maybe I should start a new topic?
On my 2005, the two dome lights (crew cab) or the cargo light will NOT come on, even with all doors open, or with the dome light switch, or with the key fob. The door ajar light on the panel does work fine.
Everything else on the truck works fine.
The PO did install a gauge pod on the roof pillar, so maybe they pulled something loose? Maybe a loose plug on the instrument cluster?
BTY, the head lights don't come on when the key fob is used to lock the doors, even with the auto light turned on (My company 2008 F150 has this feature, and they stay on for 15 seconds or so). So.......????
It's possible they pulled a wire loose when they put in the gauge pod. I would also check any fuse that mentions instrument cluster in your owners manual (2, 33, 35 and 41) in the Central Junction Box under drivers legs. Check them with a continuity tester, because a fuse can be bad but not appear blown.
As far as the head lights, I don't think the F-250 works the same way as the F-150. On mine, the headlights stay on when the key is turned off, if the autolamps are selected and it's night. They stay on for a preset amount of time. Check your owners manual for more information on how they should work.
