Refining Tips for 1940 Ford Seals and Door Linkage
It must be obvious from my last two posts that this winter I'm trying to refine my truck. And on this topic a couple of questions. These are hardly Earth shaking, but would be a help to me.
First, I'm trying to locate just where the lower door seal goes on a 1940 Ford PU. When I was rennovating my '40 I removed the old seal carrier, along with the sill. I replaced the sill, but I can't remember where the seal was located in relation to the lower door tank. I don't have pictures of it before the new sill was replaced (how silly) and there's no other original '40 cab to look at around here. I've looked for pictures online to see about where it was, but can't find any. I mean really, who takes pictures and posts them of that for the Internet. Well, I'm hoping someone has, or will post one of theirs. This is not a critical detail, but I'd just like to see and then put mine in.
Second, I am trying to find a way to take the jingle out of the loose and sliding linkage for the remote door latch. This opens the door from inside, and will lock the door if pushed forward. It operates fine, but makes a jingle while riding along that gets annoying on a long trip. This can be stopped by pushing the door handle forward into lock mode, which puts the bar joint into tension and stops the jingle, but is just as annoying to have to keep doing and undoing. My wife suggested looping a heavy rubber band around the linkage and keeping a light tension on the bars, but still enabling the lock mode. This might work, but taking the door handle off and removing the panel for access is big maintenance when the rubber band breaks. Maybe a short length of clear plastic tubing over the sliding joint, but then, it would have to be sliced and put around the bar joint, and then taped together. I can just see that tape unwinding over time... Well, any ideas, or experiences would be appreciated.

Macs has the lower seal channel and rubber.

Here's a pict where you can just see the channel and rubber (although it's a '47)

Thanks a lot, I used a '46 cab for the '40 build, so the carrier channel for the rubber would probably be running at the same place. Sometimes I forget that when ordering parts or asking advise, and then I stop and think, and remember. The channel runs just at the second level down where the sill bends toward the door tank, eh? OK, I'll try that and see how things go. I should have taken more before pictures.

Hi, new to this forum, but have been in the 80-86 forum for a while.. Just received my (2) 40' Ford trucks yesterday. Timely.
Here are two pictures of the passenger side door from one of them. The door seals on this model are affixed to the cab. The door itself does not have seals attached. Kinda scruffy looking but will be fun projects.
Have not yet wrenched on them at all yet, and so cannot comment on door linkage.
Let me know if more pictures will help. It will probably be a while before I get in the doors, but happy to assist as able.
Good luck.
