Hi I have a 1997 Ford F-150 4x4 with a 5.4L triton v8, a few of my rods started knocking. so i was wondering if anybody had a link or a file that had a engine teardown diagram so i could easily know how to pull out those knocking rods and pull the engine out.. thanks
A shop manual, or even a Haynes or other fine brand book will step you through the basics.
Once it's out and apart, then it's off to the machine shop to resize or replace the rods, and refinish the crank, measure the bore and determine what oversize piston, etc etc.... all through the engine.
IMO if you have an engine that old with that problem apart, you should go through the whole thing.
Beyond what he said, if I remember right, it's no picnic to get a 5.4L out of one of those trucks. I think you've actually got to unbolt the cab and raise it up to get enough clearance to slip the engine out. Not a good job for a beginner.
