HELP, SQUEALING SOUND WHEN SHIFTING GEARS
I have a 1996 Ford F-250HD 4x4 5.8 5 speed transmission. I had the clutch changed, flywheel turned new pilot bushing, new throwout bearing and new slave cylinder. Now when I start out and every gear change I get a squealing sound, let off the throttle and it eventually quits. Had truck back to mechanic who has replaced the throwout bearing and it still does it. He can not find the trouble. Has anyone else had this problem.

Sounds like a defective throwout bearing. When you are sitting still and with the clutch pedal pushed down, does it squeal? When you are sitting still and you let the clutch pedal up, does it squeal?

Sounds like you're having trouble with the meckanick. I'd look for another if you can't find the source of the noise.
Get it on a lift and see if the sound can be traced from underneath.

It wouldn't unless he had someone in the truck to push the clutch pedal down OR the problem was in the transmission. When the clutch pedal is up the pilot bearing(another possible suspect) would not be working as the input shaft of the transmission and the flywheel would all be turning together.
It would have to be a defective pilot bearing, a defective throwout bearing, or some sort of improper installation.

What happens if you are sitting still in neutral with the clutch pedal pushed down? What happens if you are sitting still with the transmission in gear and the clutch pedal pushed down?

I had this happen to me when I did a transmission on a chevy. Ended up I forgot to lightly grease the input shaft bearing retainer were the throwout bearing sets and it would chirp and squeal like you are describing. My 67 use to do the same thing till I fixed it.
