Question 400m problems

I have a 77 f150 with a rebuilt 400m ,rv cam, performer intake and edelbrock 750 carb with the older higher compresion pistions

well my Question is that when i load the engine up like starting out or trying to acellerate in 4th gear by flooring it it eather stalls like i push on the gas and it goes slower, or it back fires out the carb or both,im not sure what the compresion ratio is but i think like 9.75:1 mabey a little lower ,and the only gas i have ever ran is 85 octain does anyone know the problem?
I have asked a lot of people and they are all stumped
Any help would be appretiated

Maybe slow ignition timing or no vacuum advance to compensate for the pinging with high compression?
Or clogged accelerator pump passages in the carb?

And yes, 10 quarts would be a little unusual for a stock pan. If it's an aftermarket pan it would be possible.
Just my 2¢

Alot of my cutomers have the same problem. To much carb and YES you can have too much carb.hard to believe I know. But thats what it sounds like to me. Bogging under full throttle common problemwith a bigger carb.

what type of 4bbl carb is it, a vac secondary or a mech secondary. IIRC edel makes both in that size.

if you're bogging under accelleration and advancing the timeing isn't fixing it I would suggest adjusting your carb to open the secondary doors later, or re-jet the secondaries a size or two smaller to limit the amount of fuel added right when the secondaries open.

if it's more of a backfire when you stomp on it, mess with the timing and re-jet the secondaries fatter so you get more fuel at WOT....

this all assumes that the rest of the carb is in good working order, and it has been or will be rebuilt if necessary (i.e. if the carb is 10 years old it may just need an overhaul)

if all else fails, try adjusting the rod position on the accelerator pump to throw less fuel during a throttle

400m problems

i threw a rod in that 400 it was making a taping sound like a lose rocker but i was taking it to get it fixed and it threw a rod at 75 mph

But it was under warrant so i was suposed to get another one for free , but i wanted more power so i threw in a lunati bracket master 2 cam ( 290,300 duration, 536, 562 lift) roller timming chain , 9:1 pistons, full roller rockers , and a push rod guide plate conversion kit,new rodsand thats it then i threw a eledbrock performer intake that i polished the runners on , edlbrock performer 750 cfm carb oval k&n air filter, dyno max ceramicoat headers and dual 3 inch ehaust, and a msd 6al ignition, i was guessing 425 - 450 hp but who knows, well any way its pushing oil threw the front main seal mostly under hard axelleration i put on a speedy sleave but it didnt help any advise would be appreateated thx

Try a crankshaft oil slinger. The Ford part number is D0AE-6310-A, but they might be obsolete. You can get them from the aftermarket, though.

400m problems

It's nice to know I was missed.

I had some problems with the "Cleveland" forum reciently. I don't want to get into the details for now, but to make a long story short, I've decided to start a new Yahoo forum of my own. It's called, 351 Clevelands Rock. It's in the Muscle Car index.

Some Memorable Quotes from
Blues Brothers, The (1980)

[Elwood Blues Jake Blues has a fight over the police car Elwood Blues got after he traded away the original bluesmobile for a microphone]
Elwood Blues: You don't like it?
Jake Blues: No I don't like it...
[Elwood Blues floors the pedal and jumps over an open drawbridge]
Jake Blues: Of course it's got a lot of pickup...
Elwood Blues: It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?
[A brief thinking pause while Jake Blues lights a cigarette]
Jake Blues: Fix the cigarette lighter.

Donald 'Duck' Dunn: We had a band powerful enough to turn goat **** into gasoline.

Jake Blues: No, I didn't. Honest. I ran out of gas! I had a flat tire! I didn't have enough money for cab fare! My tux didn't come back from the cleaners! An old friend came in from out of town! Someone stole my car! There was an earthquake! A terrible flood! Locusts! IT WASN'T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD!"

Elwood Blues: I bet these cops got SCMODS.
Jake Blues: SCMODS?
Elwood Blues: State County Municipal Offender Data System.

Elwood Blues: The light was yellow, sir.

Elwood Blues: You want I should wipe the dead bugs off the windshield, ma'am?

Elwood Blues: It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.
Jake Blues: Hit it!

Police Dispatcher: Use of unnecessary violence in the apprehension of the Blues Brothers HAS been approved.

Elwood Blues: They're not gonna catch us. We're on a mission from God.

Elwood Blues: Our Lady of Blessed Acceleration, don't fail us now!
