I recently had my driver side front caliper seize up and smoke the rotor. The calipers rotors and brake hoses were replaced in the front. Today the pass. rear caliper did it. No smoke or obvious warpage, but there was a fair amount of heat and some smell.
What do you guys recommend for replacement parts?
In the last few weeks the ABS light has come on a few times, then disappears - haven't seen it for a week or so - not sure if this is related. Thanks!
If you are looking for rotors, I like ART rotors. As far as pads go, I have always read the OEM pads are best (I haven't had to change mine yet, but I have the pads bought). Not sure on calipers, but I would think those would clean up and be re-usable.
My son ran his w/ no pad material for quite a distance - only metal on metal. Did not ruin the rotors. I was impressed. I overheated a pair of them towing a trailer going into Ouray, Co (they told me in town it happens a lot to tourists from the flatlands ) and no warpage (on a 7.3L). Sure did stink though. I agree, they are not cheap. Only you can say if they are worth it for you though.
They look and sound very expensive - I was just checking out their website. I think Disney is preserved the same way.
$380 for a pair of rear rotors and pads - Whoa!! Are they worth it??
Consider their function and what it means if they DON'T work and ask yourself the same question. Brakes aren't something you EVER want to scrimp on IMHO.
Thanks guys - I never skimp on brakes, other than sometimes doing the work myself. Sometimes it is hard to differentiate the hype and marketing from the actual performance. Sounds like you have seen some impressive results Bismic.
Why do you think my calipers keep sticking? Salt corrosion? I live real close to the ocean. I have heard that this is a common problem with Ford SuperDuty calipers.

I agree that it is most likely your environment. Cleaning the slide pins up and then greasing w/ a good grease will take care of it for quite awhile.
It also helps to flush the fluid every year or two to help stop the pistons from corroding and/or sticking. I waited four years to flush mine and it took four qts. of dot 3 before I was satisfied with the fluid coming out.
Over the summer the brake fluid was totally flushed when the front brakes, rotors and calipers were replaced. Two different mechanics insisted I replace the calipers rather than rebuild or refurbish them. I had my local shop do it because I had no time. It seemed a bit of overkill especially since the brakes seemed to be working fine after the incident of caliper sticking, but I did not want to skimp on brakes.

How do you flush the brake system? I am a back yard mechanic, I have maintained my own brakes for all my vehicles, but never flushed the brake fluid.
Can anyone point me to a good right up on the process.
