it's a 94 with the 5bolt caps, got a set of warn premium manuals, there is no room to install the snap ring on the end of the shaft (can't even see the groove) what do i do? I'm not mechanically deprived. thanks guys!
tried that, tried prying, made sure i have th right parts, even went and got other ones in case they were wrong, still the problem, do you use the small small retaining ring on these? or the outer on on the hub? or both?
After the outer wheel bearing, (I'm going to assume you've already tightened/adjusted it and the inner wheel bearing), you should install the main hub body (no c-clip). If the bearings aren't adjusted and torqued to specs, the hub body will not insert far enough to see the groove for the snap ring. After the main hub body is installed and the snap ring installed, you can then install the outer cover. The end. There's basically only one way to do it.
I ran into the same problem with my '90 Bronco. Here's what I did: I put the Warn snap-ring on the end of the axle. I then took a small screwdriver (one that was small enough to fit between the ends of the snap-ring with it on the axle) and I used it to pry the axle out far enough so that the snap-ring went into the groove. It's holding so far.
Still no go.... there is no way that these hubs will fit this truck, 4 friends have looked at it, including the owner of the truck, they have no idea... So, I called warn, they don't know why they wont work. The outer ring, (the on that goes on the hub) fits fine, the one that goes onto the splined shaft doesn't (the snap ring) The directions state "ALL FORDS WITH TWIN TRACTION BEAM FRONT AXLES (INDEPENDENT FRONT SUSPENSION) MUST HAVE AN AXLE RETAINING RING INSTALLED" If ANYONE has ANY info, it would be greatly appreciated....... thanks again
Have you removed the C-clip and the 3 splined spacers? They're the last things to come out before the wheel bearing nuts. You can see them in this album.
yes, all clips, everything, the splined spacers were crushed into pieces, have to buy a new spindle..... i guess since no one can figure this out i'll buy some different hubs. thanks........
I had the same thoughts when I replaced them on my Bronco. Believe me, they will fit. What I found is the Warn hubs are a tight fit, and need some negotiating to get them in or out. What I did was screw in 2 of the hub cap screws on opposite sides of the hub. I then had to wiggle the hub assembly back and forth, and up and down to get it to seat, as well as rotate the entire rotor assembly. The driver's side went in easily, but the passenger side took some time. If you do return the hubs, try the Mile-Marker hubs. They are equally as good as the Warn's.
Hi, a thought, Ford made different sized hubs for auto hubs and manual hubs. (I think a gm engineer was there for sabatoge reasons). I have manual hubs on mine, but the originals were auto locks. And, there is a size difference in parts.

I've swapped several autos to manuals, and I've never found any difference in sizes. No parts supplier mentions any differences, either, and the Ford service CDs list only one PN for hubs, regardless of whether they have auto locks or manual locks.
