5 qts. in 4.6...with filter?
I'd ask this question over at the Mustang site, but it will only take about 5 minutes for a fistfight to break out....LOL...Every 4.6 I have owned is 6 qts. with filter. I picked up a 2000 Mustang GT and it says 5 qts. with filter. Book says that...plus 5w-30. Info. centers...like at Wal-Mart...say 5w-20?? Please....not intended to be an oil thread...just seems odd on that 5 quart thing....?
Thanks...Jeff

Yep...I have the original owners manuel and it says 5 qts. with filter.....5w-30. That's what I will do....just thought I would toss it out cause it seemed kind of odd. I bought the car and just drove it home and put it away till spring. I'll change oil right away at that time. My 97 Gt was 6 qts. Must be something different on a 2000.... shallow pan maybe....dunno'.... Thank you for the reply.

LOL......I bounced around on the net, and as usual you find one guy who says the pans on a truck and a car were different in 99 and half of 01 with the Mustang Gt's getting a smaller pan..... which makes sense. But then you get 10 other people that say they use anywhere from 6-7.5 qts. in there 2000 Mustang GT and only an "idiot" would "starve" the engine with 5 qts. My owners book in the glovebox says 5qts. of 5-30......that's what the girl will get....I wonder what kind of oil I should use....( JUST KIDDING)....

The owner's manual in my 2003 F150 which I purchased new also says 5 quarts.
However, if I did that, I would be almost 2 quarts low as a refill takes 6.8 quarts to put it right at the full mark on the dipstick.
I do changes at 5000 miles and have 134000 miles with no problems, no leaks, no oil consumption between changes.
I've always gone by what the dipstick says.
