I picked up a 3 ton jack and stands set at lowes when I got my truck in 08. Haven't had any problems yet and I've used it on pretty much everything from the truck to lifting boats to swap them from trailer to trailer.
I use two Craftsman 3 ton short frame floor jacks for the front. One under each radius arm, never had a problem, other than the jacks sinking into asphalt when it got really hot. Then I have two 12 ton bottle jacks, and a 3 ton long frame Harbor Freight floor jack for the back. Plus 4 Larin 12-ton jack stands, and 2 each of 6 and 3 ton stands. My brother uses a 3 ton Husky floor jack from Home Depot, it has trouble getting the front end up on it's own, but paired with another jack it'll do just fine.
I've got a couple hi stand craftsman jack stands, and a harbor freight 3 ton that hasn't let me down yet. It'll slow leak down on you over time, but that's what the jack stands are for. The harbor freight jack stands, however loose a pin and then the release lever doesn't drop the stand down.
The 3 ton floor jacks were all $139 and more at every auto parts store. I bought a Harbor Freight for $79. I wouldn't use any less than a 3 ton jack under an F-series, as the smaller jacks simply won't last very long.
I don't quite get where NAPA's 3.5 ton jack, made in China, was $669. A lesser version was $269. Our town has lost one NAPA after another, and now has only two - this could be a reason why.
I bought a 3.5 ton from Sams a few years back that worked great until the seals blew out, searched the net and found out it was a common problem. Also wasn't impressed with what I found out about the Craftsman jacks and Harbor freights so I paid the $230 or whatever it was from NAPA and so far have been very happy with it. Unfortunately the really good ones are $1K+, the kind you see sitting at the tire places that still do things outside. I also wanted over 21" of lift and that was hard to come by with most of the jacks under $500.
I use a 12 ton bottle jack. The bottle jack is cheaper than the floor jack and they don't take up much space when you aren't using them. Got mine at harbor freight i believe.
NEVER work under the truck with just a jack holding it up... ALWAYS use jack stands. And chock the wheels on the ground!!
