So I was romping on my X a couple nights ago when the last time I punched it I heard a big gush of air and my Boost was only going to 20- 21psi.( usually tops out at 26psi) I have used search function but my problem is different because I havent noticed a loss of power until 20psi. No weird sounds, no metal on metal. The sound doesnt really start till 20psi either. It was dark though, and I know usually I can blow out a lot of black smoke but I havent started since getting back home. I noticed no leaks or obviously blown hoses. Is there maybe a blow off valve stuck open or something? BTW this turbo prolly has 30k on it. What can I do? Thanks for your advice in advance.
I have an '01 X 7.3 PSD 139000mi with Garrett 88mm turbo and an Edge 3 way switch.

Reason: title
Check to see if you blew any of your IC boots off or if one has a crack in it. There are 6 in all
Thinking the same thing myself, I would think a possible split in a boot, obviously not so noticable.
My Nissan 93 Skyline GTR twin turbo used to blow its boot all the time and had that same whoosh but bloody loud, however I'd have zero boost at that point.
A minor split would answer the boost drop.
I'm now wondering if mine is OK as I can only get 21psi IF I'm lucky on 80hp Edge evo tune, stock I'll see 14psi, my whistle is quite too even with 6637 kit
Great!! Sounds like i didnt screw anything up yet. So i take its "ok" to drive until fixed? I only have one problem...where are the ic boots ya'll speak of? I tried the search function to get a pic but "ic" was too short to search for
I'm coming from a v10 so diesel world is a little overwhemling right now
The red things on either side of my engine cover are "IC" boots. IC is short for Intercooler.
Yours will likely be black or blue you will have the 2 shown then if you follow each pipe down there will be 2 more.
Also there will be two orange boots under the pipe the two upper boots connect to. I highly doubt those would pop off. I'd say it will likely be the upper drivers side boot if any but don't stop looking if that boot is not off or cracked.
So whats the best way to check for leaks? Engine running and using my hands (sounds a little hot to do, not really up for burning my hands ) or what about using soapy water and starting?

First thing to do is just pop the hood and inspect all the boots visually and make sure they look like they're sealing up right. Obviously if you can see air between the boot and pipe that's your issue.
