Fuel Pressure

Just curious and couldn't really find any info on it, so thought I would start a new thread.
I have a pressure guage on my bowl, and I've been thinking I might have some fuel issues, but before I looked into a new pump, or the intank mods, I thought I would some things out. At idle and revving in neutral(I know no load but... still havent checked under accleration) I have 67psi, good never really twitches. So I have decent pressure, but my question is more volume related?

How fast should the bowl fill up from empty? Or for those with guages how fast does your pressure fall off with the drain open? I think I might have fuel volume issues, although my truck never seems to plateau or falll on its face during acceleration.

I would say just make it easy on your self and go run it on the road. Let us know what you see and we can go from there.

I know I need to, but I have to make my line longer in order to see it while driving so I was looking for a different angle. Thanks Clay.

If your pressure doesn't move when you rev your truck your probly fine and if your at 67 psi your above stock pressure already! I would be real surprised if any of us would even see pressure on our gauge when the fuel drain is opened! But not sure. I have the in tank mods and clays fprx and crusing

When shut off mine will drop from 65 psi to 10 psi in about 20 seconds. Then it sits at 10 psi and will eventually go to zero.

I've always thought more than 5 psi drop indicates a weakening pump? Doesn't sound too bad though. I just need to make a line and test it.

Interesting, if I compare this, mine falls off immediately to about 10 then within 5 seconds or so to 0 psi, I might have a leak somewhere downstream?

Why do you think you have volume issues?

Just trying to check all possibilities for my blue smoke issue? I know I have the pressure, just trying to rule out other fuel issues, such as aeration or volume? Knowin that I do have the pressure I was trying to think of another way to verify I was getting good fuel flow.

OK. Air in the fuel usually gives you a noisier engine. Are you burning any oil between changes?

Maybe 2 quarts in 5000 miles? My blue smoke I believe if either oil pre-exhaust or fuel related. Engine is pretty noisy to most but seems about the same to me for years, and it hasn't been smoking for years, just a month or so. Only at idle up to about 1500 RPM's then it clears up. I really didnt think I have bad fueling issues since it continues to pull and never falls on its face in the upper RPM's but it is always worth looking into.

I would take a look at the FPR, it may be the problem. Maybe it isn't sealing properly in the fuel bowl?

Bob at sells a Fuel Bowl Relief Valve Rebuild Kit for $57 that has the parts needed including the poppet seat.

Here is my video from my Riffraff FRx Install, shows the fuel pressure bleed-off starts at 2:50 in the video.

Thanks for the comparison Ken, I guess the reflief is something to look into. I cant think of a way to test it, without just taking a shot in the dark.

Just pull the FPR, you will be able to tell if the seat is damaged. Make sure you have a new Viton fuel sleeve as it will most likely be damaged.
