I have a 2010 fx 4 cew cab that has a 2" lift on it. I am new to the truck scene, but my wife has always wanted a big truck. I have pro comp tires that are 35 X 12.50X20 LT. They are the Pro Comp Xtreme A/T. The truck is driven evry once in a while and it is never off road. The issue I am having is that the tire wear is really bad and uneven in the front. It has been aligned 3 times in one year and the balance has been checked. I had the lift kit done at the dealership and they are saying this is normal and that the wear is due to not rotating the tires every 3000 miles. If the truck was driven every day I would understand but it only has 10,000 miles on it. Is this normal? The wear looks like a shock could be bad but they have already replaced the shocks about 3 moths after i purchased the truck.
I can't imagine this is normal because proper alignment is key. Caster and camber and toe needs to be correctly measured. How does the truck drive, does it track straight and is the steering wheel in normal position, or are the tires noisy or anything like that?
The tires have become noisy. The vehicle never pulled like it would if the toe was out. The tread wear is uneven across the width of the tire like it was out of balance but the tires were balanced and checked.
It worked for me, I put 11k on my truck since May and probably 8k on the Nittos. No other issues that I've encountered. Its worth a try right? And its a free fix if it works
It did ride slightly rougher but its a truck
I had cupping on the last set of tires (mudders) but only in the front. I think it was because the tech was not rotating them as I had requested every time I was in for oil change (about 4K miles). The rear tires had worn nice and even. I just had a 1 1/2" level kit put on plus had front end alignment done as well as a new set of mudders. I got 50K out of the first set (not bad). I will be marking tires every time I go to the dealership for service from now, at these I will know if the tech is doing what I asked. I also run my tires at a higher PSI. The older set were C load so I ran them at 50PSI, the new set are D so I am running at 60PSI. I find the higher PSI gives me better steering control, a little harder ride (I like that) and less wear. I hope this helps. Chris
My Nittos are E rated and 50 psi has been a good compromise between ride comfort and tire wear. You can experiment with different pressures and see what works best for you.
Oh, and welcome to FTE!
thats crazy. I got 50k mile out of a set of mudgrapplers with my level kit and no alignment. I got lucky and everything stayed how it should. never wore bad, just kept them rotated every 3-5k.
I was wondering if the quality of the tire was an issue
I'm no Tire expert but I know that Procomp doesn't make their own tires and that they switched manufacturers.
My new Procomps suck compared to the ones I had before.
