ok guys. I need help.

Well I'm looking for a 4x4 truck and I've found 2 that I like. Which ever one I get will pay tribute to my long gone great grandfather, will be used for a toy, grunt work, and just as a classic that is to be enjoyed (as all of them are)
Truck number one: its a 2wd that has been converted to 4x4, needs dash rewired and some floor pan work, has a 390 that will need a rebuild soon, a 4speed with granny low,a NP205 xercase D44 front, 9" rear and its 2-2 1/2 hours away.
Truck two: haven't been able to contact the guy yet but from the pictures and given info I know this: has the 300 big 6, 4 speed granny low, will nedd tires soon, probably floor work like truck one, this one is only about an hour away.
Both are flatbed trucks truck 2 looks to be an old huntin truck.
I'm plannin on getting the body in a ok condition, far from show quality, but good enough to drive it in a parade maybe, and not to the point it would hurt my feelings if somethin happened ridin trails and such.

Truck 2: 1968 Ford F100 4X4
I will have to drive it home as I don't have a trailer big enough to haul them home.
Thanks guys. I really need help because I have no idea which one would suit my needs better, I just DO NOT want another 302, I wanna be able to pull, all I can do with my 302 in my 96 is go fast and scare people with my exahust.

If truck 2 is as nice inside as truck 1, passerooney on truck 1 and go with truck 2. Pull that working bed and drop a box or custom flatbed on it. Just my .02 cents.

Yeah, that's the dodgy part (no pun)...finding the person who has the truck you want. I saw this one recently, and not 30 days after I had already started my project with a 69 F250. Not my ad and not an endorsement, but it looks nice:

And what's crazy is that the 69, I talked to the owner for 2-3 hours about the truck and he hasn't done anything but drive it, change oil, and do the breaks, and he knew every little thing about it. He didn't convert it, or anything. I may end up gettin truck one just cause the guy is knowledgeable and he's good people.

My vote is for #2, but you hafta be able to get in touch with the owner--that much is definite.

I'd be asking about the transfer cases. The F100s all had factory 1 speed cases but in F250s and the eventually later '70s F100/150s 2 speeds were available. If you plan on 'wheelin it much it's hard to beat low range. If one had a 2 speed case swapped in and the other didn't that would decide it for me.

Well, I JUST got off the phone with truck #2's owners and from what they told me its in the same, if not better condition than the '69 (truck 1). I'm planning on going and looking at it as soon as I have cash in hand. I really don't care what xcase is in it now, because its just going to be a work mule and a toy, 4x4 is just one of my requirements for it to be a toy.
