Hi everyone. I'm trying to raise an f100 from the dead. I put a battery in it today. Nothing works though. No lights, guages, horn, radio. Only thing that does work is the heater blower. It turns but not at the speed in which it should. I can hear it turning like 5 rpm but no air comes out.
I replaced the starter solenoid today also.
The engine will crank if I cross the posts on the solenoid. Other than that, I get nothing.
One thing that might be worth mentioning is that the truck has a points type ignition. When sitting with the battery in it, key off or on, the coil gets hot to the touch.
I haven't done any testing with my multi-meter yet. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas off the top of their head.
Also, I had the truck running about 6 months ago. Everything worked the last time I messed with it.
Thanks
Sounds like you may have a bad ground connection. Clean the ground from the battery to the engine, usually the alternator bracket. If your truck doesn't have one, install a ground strap from the engine to the frame. Bolt the strap to one of the engine lifting eyes, or to one of the engine/tranny connecting bolts and then directly to the frame. See if that helps.

My first thought is....are the wires hooked up on the starter relay correctly??
Front large terminal should have a large battery + on it as well as several more wires , which are the power feeds to the truck.
Rear large terminal should have one wire direct to starter +
Front small terminal one wire, same with the rear small terminal.
If it is wired correctly, most of the wires on the front large terminal have fusible links in them, it would be unusual for all to be blown at once so maybe the terminal lugs are corroded and not letting current thru.
Also it could be a bad ignition switch......I am just wondering how the coil is getting power when the key is off......which returns me to the starter relay having its wires mixed up.
Good luck.
