I recently bought a ford f250 with a v10, crew cab, 38,000 miles. Love the truck, lots of room for kids. Abs light came on. I've been reading some of the related post. I understand that its probably the sensor in the rear differential. I removed the bolt and tried to remove the sensor but it wouldn't move. Not sure how to get it out, afraid I might break it. Any suggestions? My next question is what sensor to buy. I went to my local ford dealer. They said $90, but they gave me a modle number that that I can't find and wont cross refrence with local auto stores. My local NAPA dealer is not sure if the sensor they have is the right one becuz it falls under a transmission part. Adv. auto says they have the right one for $60. Auto zone $120. I know this is wordy, but can somebody help me?

My guess is that you need the rear speed sensor:
Part number Part Description
6L3Z9E731A Rear speed sensor, f250 pick-up - 1999-07 super duty 2006 - 2007 1 $43.38 $43.38
This is what I used in an '06 F-350. It is best to have a new sensor in hand before getting the old one out - as you found it is in there tight.
Recommend removing the spare tire so that you have some room to work. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor and twist the sensor clockwise and counter-clockwise to get it loose. Using some thin screwdrivers, pry it up a little at a time. Eventually it will come out.
I think that the plastic sensor deforms a little after extended use so that it is tough to remove. Installing the new one is easier, but requires substantial effort to push it in place.
If you change your rear end fluid at the same time you replace the sensor, you can fill the differential through the sensor hole. Much easier than trying to fill through the fill plug.
Unfortunatly Ed is not avalible right now. He had a stroke and is out for now.
It might not be the rear speed sensor either. There are 2 up front, one on each hub. I had one of those go bad on me and when I pulled it out the end was gone. The needle bearing blew and chewed it up. Truck never made a sound with the failed bearing. Its something you should check out. If you have a multi meter, just unplug the sensor from the harness (plug is right behind the plastic wheel well at the bottom, just follow the sensor wire) Un plug and check the resistance. If good it should be 0.
