Well tomorrow morning it's off to see another X (only 110 miles away) It's a 2003 Limited with everything and only 75k miles on it. Carfax is clear and has only had 1 owner. They say everything is as it should be but will wait and see. Dealer said that someone else may be interested in the X Bower also, gotta love dealer tatics
You can throw in real estate agents in that tactic as well. "There's another pending offer on the house you want. Their offer is $10k higher than yours. You gotta offer higher if you want it." Sick, ain't it?

No kidding! I guess the " someone else is interested" works on some people. Guess you can blame them for trying, but bet anything they are calling me first thing Monday morning asking me when I am coming back in, wish I could hear their reaction when the wife tells them that am somewhere else looking at another X
Reminds me when I was looking for an X. Found one that dealer wanted $33k and I called then and said I would be down next weekend if they let it for $30. They said no way. I went and found something else and paid $16k. Six mnths later the original dealer had it for $29k and I called them up asking about it again. Told them I was willing to get it off their hands for $30 a few mnths earlier but they didn't want to talk. Their response, so when do you want to come in? I said thanks but I already bought a diff one. Suckers!
Back to regular programming!
Hope your search is fruitful!
You know what else also helps when you're dealing with a dealership...jump on something as soon as it hits their lot. I don't know whether it's because they aren't as invested in it or what, but I've gotten some good deals that way. In 2007 I wanted a fun to drive gas sipper to go with my truck at the time. A buddy tells me that the Dodge dealership had an '06 Cobalt SS Supercharged traded in the previous evening. When I got there Sat. morning it hadn't been cleaned up yet or anything. I took them by surprise, they didn't even know what they wanted to ask for it, so they started out at blue book retail, plus 1k: 23K. At the end of the day I bought it for 16.4k. I think it can be fun to treat it like a sport and be the one playing the games with them. All that said, it sure is easier to buy from individuals.
The dealer that the X is at is a Ford dealer that we have bought from, 2006 F350 Lariat 6.0, my wifes 2006 Freestyle, my sons 2008 Fusion, my daughters 2004 Taurus, I looked at a Expedition EX a while back for my wife but they didn't come up with the right numbers for trade, so we left. They called the next day and offered more for the trade, told them still wasn't good, called again the next day little better yet, this time i told them that we weren't interested anymore and changed our minds, but that if they had made the third offer in the first place we probably would have taken the deal. When I talked to them this past Saturday about the X, the new trade in appraiser came in and said I heard that if things aren't right I heard that you will walk, told him it's good that they finally are getting to know me
I'd let them know up front that you have your eye on another one and give them the details on the '01. Tell them you are giving them a chance to get you into a slightly newer one if they can make you a competitive offer. Pick a number around 14k or so and tell them they can take it or leave it, you aren't paying more than that to save a couple of years.
Wear comfortable shoes too...you'll probably walk out a lot...lol I think you can get it under 15 though if you play hardball. Sounds like a great find. Lots of life left in that one.
Don't know if I can post a link, but this is the one that I am driving up to see tomorrow morning, pretty sure they want it out since this not their usual market
Wow, 15.9k is a surprisingly fair starting point on that one. If I were you I'd jump on it if the Carfax is clean. If you don't end up getting it let us know...My father and brothers still live in Maryland, and my brother's family size keeps increasing...lol

I talked to the guy last evening and he said one owner and carfax is clean, but if you look at the pictures close the bumper passanger side, is dented. They were also very evasive when I asked the about the hubs being free to turn from auto to manual. But it is worth checking out
Definitely worth checking out for sure. Its got low enough miles and the price is gonna be fair. If you've got a few bugs like hubs to tweak no big deal...like some others were saying that's just some good negotiating ammo. Good luck.
The drive up also gives a chance to think and make sure I want to do this. My F350 6.0 has been a great truck with the exception of the oil leak that they have tried to repair twice that hasn't lasted. It's no problem while it's under warranity but once it goes out the engine pull alone is 1500.00 and I don't have the means to pull it no do I have the equipment
I wouldnt let the hub issue be a no go. It is almost guaranteed to be an issue and there are several detailed documents that are on the boards on how to free them up. Some even just go to a set of aftermarket manual hubs.
I have had both a V10 and now a 7.3. I will say the V10 was a great engine for the X. It was hard on gas as mine had 4.30 gears, but it was a great engine. I picked up quite a bit of fuel mileage with the 7.3 but they are pretty hard to find. My 03 V10 had a driveline vibration I spent a small fortune on trying to resolve (never did) and finally unloaded it.
