Controversial Thread

I know we are all true blue oval guys, but I am curious how many issues folks are really dealing with or have dealt with. When I read through the threads and see comments about things that were serviced, I began wondering how many unreported problems there really were. Ford will never share annual failure rate or class problems with us.

Granted, some of these issues are self inflicted. Others will probably become a class problem that Ford will address through design, manufacturing or supplier changes. And others, will be random events due to wear and tear through usage.

Being in the electronics field and responsible for a product line, these are the kind of things I monitor. So... this is not an attempt to tarnish what appears to be a solid reliability record. Just a curiosity from my engineering background.

For the record, I have had no repairs. Only possible area of concern is the turbo whine on startup.

I am gonna assume that this isn't only the 6.7 but the MY 2011.. I've got the 6.2.... I can say that I have used mine for 6 months/ 12800 miles and No problems..

I have one small issue with the trans "hunting" between 2&3rd but I have to get conditions right with cold fluid, etc. to make it happen so I would call it NOT a problem.

I have used mine on & off road.. Texas heat & drought dusty conditions, a little mud lately... Pulling heavy trailers (14K) about 20% of mileage (some in off-road -fairly extreme conditions) - usually in serious TX heat..

I have changed air cleaner 1 time & clean it frequently.
I have changed the oil more than Ford says - 3 times..

No CEL yet, interior still holding together, Drivetrain seems good, e-locker works well - I use it a lot! Paint /body/ electronics seem to be good..

Not trying to be a fanboy - Just Honest

Only time will tell for sure - so far most of the issues have seemed fairly "not unexpected" - not to say they aren't serious, inconvenient or annoying but not necessarily indicative of major design flaws, assembly flaws or other - yet (knock on wood).

I don't think this thread is controversial because the truth is look how many guys come here or to other forums when they do have problems. The internet is probably the best thing that has happened in terms of informing consumers for better and for worse. It would be insane for any major manufacturer to try and hide or dismiss any complaints or issues.

Brand loyalty I think is less and less a factor with younger consumers so the manufacturers need to pay attention to what is going on in the innnerwebs if they want to continue to protect whatever brand loyalty they perceive they have. For me I am not a GM guy - never have been, never will be - but not because I have any experience with any of their product but more so because I don't like the way they have run their business for so many years. I have hated GM's multi-line, multi-brand all look the same because we can take adavantage of our historical significance attitude that has prevailed for so long. Now perhaps that will change in the future, we will see.

For now I am happy with Ford but it actually made me think - I have never owned consecutive manufacturers ever - I buy what I like regardless of manufacturer and thus far I've never stayed with the same manufacturer when replacing vehicles. So I guess I'm one of those who only bleed the Blue Oval while I own it!

The only issue I've had so far was the funky bottom end shifting, which was cured with the updated trans flash.

You bring up something that I forgot about. Hard shifting between 2/3 and one at 4/5. Noticeable, but not sure it is a problem.

No real problems in 2 months and 4500miles. I have an occasionally squeaky seat belt latch (doesn't bother me much- trying a syn dry lube). Funky shift between 1st and 2nd that will probably be fixed with the software update. It only happened 4 times and I have no time to drop off with dealer. Overall- GREAT TRUCK!

If you haven't had the re-flash done you might want to consider it.

For me it's 6 months, 8,000 miles, and a new turbo.

Otherwise it's been great! Still can get 19 MPGs in 0° weather!

My only problem is the emergency brake will not release. When I release the brake the chime keeps sounding and the light stays on, even though the brake is really released. I have to push it down and release several time to get it to work. Taken it into dealer twice and they fix it but with in a couple weeks the problem is back.

These are the things I suspect that are going on and people aren't mentioning. Every manufacturer is dealing with them at some level or another. That is why I started the thread. People are dealing with stuff. Like I mentioned above, some of it is self inflicted, others are a class problem and still others are normal wear and tear.

Ultimately, if there are a number of these issues people are experiencing or if there is a noticeable class problem, the vehicle becomes know as "bad".

We're still early in this process. I think it is just coming up on its first full year of this redesigned product.

I brought my truck in because i pulls hard to the left. Was told that every thing was within spec. I also have a problem under hard breaking, like in an emergency the truck will dip hard and want to turn sideways. This happened when a dog ran out in front of me, and once while avoiding an accident. My front grill is being replaced because the chrome is.starting to bubble.
2800 miles.

When was your truck built? And also where on the grill is it bubbling? Sometimes when a manufacturer buys from a supplier, they get a bad lot. Your truck is probably pretty close to age to mine.
