truck broke down
I've been putting off getting a fuel filter for it, which I have done but i discovered that the truck isn't switching tanks when I hit the switch on the dash. It will switch the gas guage to the other tank, which does me no good as neither one of them works. I am wonderig how I could fix the not switching tanks issue.. right now all it is doing is taking fuel out of my front tank, I had apparently ran it bone dry which is why I broke down... would it be as simple as replacing the switch in the dash?.. also as I was replacing the fuel filter, it looked like there was only one pump for both tanks, is that right?

Theres 3 pumps one in each tank and one on the frame rail. Theres also a valve that both tanks hook into on your frame rail. Thats what went bad on my truck. It could be that or your pump in the back tank. It doesn't make sense that your truck still runs when you switch to the other tank.
I could be completly wrong on hows your is setup. Thats how my 88 is though.

Its not the switch, its either the valve that on the frame rail that both tanks connect to on the frame rail or the rear tank has a bad fuel pump. as for the fuel gauge, the sending unit is bad, therfore not reading right
